I recommend this method, actually, but just be aware that you're now doing your RAW conversions with DPP, and take advantage of it. I then use Photoshop for the rest of the editing and workflow. This is my normal workflow anyhow because I prefer DPP to ACR for the RAW conversions. So just be aware that what you've really done is elected to start using DPP as your RAW converter. The file that gets transferred to Photoshop is a 16 Bit TIFF that has been converted from the RAW by DPP using the settings you've made in DPP. If you open a file in DPP and transfer it to Photoshop, you're effectively using DPP as your RAW converter (which I prefer anyhow, but.).

Anyway - if the $200 upgrade to CS3 from CS2 is too much, you really owe it to yourself to check out the DNG way. The DNG format is treated as a RAW format once your original is converted. The DNG converter method mentioned above will enable you to do exactly what you are hoping to do - that is, use Bridge to view/edit your RAW files. I would prefer using Adobe Bridge to view and edit the 40D’s raw files, but until Adobe creates an update for CS2 this is the best way to work on your 40D raw files in Photoshop that I’ve found. Select “Tools” and click on “Transfer to Photoshop” or you can you the keyboard command (Alt+P). Then select the image you would like to work on in Photoshop (when you first launch the program you’ll have to navigate to the directory where your raw files are stored, then the images in that directory will be displayed as thumbnails, select the image you want to work on) once the image is opened up into its own window, you will have these menu options at the top of the screen: File, Edit, Adjustment, Tools, Window and Help. Second launch the “Digital Photo Professional” application.
